| Can You Use a Pet Gate for Other Animals? |

The simple answer is yes, you can use a pet gate for a cat, a rabbit, or any other reasonably sized pet. If you need to block off an area of your home where there is no door, or the door should not be closed, then a pet gate can help you out.
Cats, independent-minded critters that they are, won’t necessarily get the hint. Few gates are high enough to keep them from jumping over, so it will take some training and persistence. You could potentially stack two tension gates one over the other or use an old screen door if you must.
When friends of mine got a rabbit for their children, the kids wanted to give the bunny free access. A compromise was reached. The bunny could hop about the kid’s rooms, but a gate had to be up to keep accidents from occurring in the common living areas, and the kids were responsible for cleaning up in their own space. A pet gate allowed the bunny more room to roam and kept the parents happy. The same concept can be used for a guinea pig.
Picking the right pet gate for other animals requires a bit more selectivity. You have to have a mesh or smaller openings between slats. If need be, get a gate with questionable openings and then attach a fabric mesh over the slats using a staple gun. The last thing you want is for your pet to get their head caught in the gate. Take a look at what exists online, you are likely to find something that will work for you.
